Japanese at Dungog High School - Class update

Japanese bingo cards

It's been wonderful getting to know our lovely Year Seven students during term 1. I am so proud of the hard work my students have put into learning their hiragana characters and Japanese numbers. The Japanese bingo games have  been a highlight!

Our classes have also been learning about Japanese sentence structure, where we realised that George Lucas drew his inspiration for Yoda's speech patterns from Japanese! We can now say our names and ages in Japanese, in preparation for communication with students in other classes, schools and even in Japan.

Year Nine have been working incredibly hard on their hiragana to write exclusively in Japanese characters next term. After some intense revision of Year Seven Japanese, we are ready to write increasingly complex sentences to discuss our hobbies and activities. Year Nine have also started designing their own Virtual Tours of Japan using the Google Expeditions Virtual Reality kit in the library. This has been a great way to start exploring the physical landscape of Japan without leaving Dungog.

ありがとう ございました,  Miss O'Brien
