Education Access Scheme

Long-term educational disadvantage doesn't necessarily mean that students won't have access to University. Educational Access Schemes (EAS) exist to help applicants who have been affected by circumstances beyond their control during Years 11 and/or 12. The Schemes vary from institution to institution but generally a documented disadvantage can result in additional bonus points added to a student's ATAR.

The University Admissions Centre (UAC) processes EAS applications for all participating institutions. There are 26 types of disadvantage, which fall into the seven broad categories of -disrupted schooling; financial hardship; home environment and responsibilities; English language difficulty; personal illness/disability; refugee status and school environment.

EAS booklets and application forms are available from the Careers Adviser from about July each year. The booklet and form is also available on UAC's website at www.uac.edu.au An applicant who thinks they might be eligible should submit an EAS application in addition to their UAC application. On-time EAS applications must be submitted to UAC by end of September (but can be submitted up until early January following year). Applicants are required to provide supporting documents, so it is a good idea to start the application process as soon as possible.
